The UK National Health Service Supply Chain (NHSSC) has signed a partnership agreement to procure seven radiation therapy systems under a new partnership to provide NHS clinicians and patients with advanced radiation therapy treatment options.

The partnership was agreed with a large radiation oncology equipment manufacturer and will increase the number of NHS hospitals that have access to radiation therapy for regular and more complex cancer patient cases.

The agreement is for seven Accuray (Sunnyvale, CA, USA) TomoTherapy systems, and is the largest commitment from one customer that the company has ever had. The system can be used for fast, and precise delivery of a specific radiation dose, and enables personalized radiation therapy treatments. The system also offers interactive planning, and daily Computed Tomography (CT) images.

The NHSSC provides healthcare products and services for the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. The purchase of the TomoTherapy systems was part of an existing agreement with Accuray for radiotherapy, imaging, endoscopy and accessories.

Andy Brown, managing director of Capital Solutions at the UK NHSSC, said, “NHS Supply Chain is committed to offering high-quality, cost effective radiotherapy treatment systems to the NHS and improving patients’ access to new and effective treatment. We believe our latest deal with Accuray will help us achieve these objectives as well as enable us to further support the delivery of the national cancer strategy”.
