A new mobile x-ray system provides comprehensive, secure virtual workstation integration into the hospital’s information technology (IT) environment.

The Siemens Healthineers (Erlangen, Germany) Mobilett Elara Max mobile digital X-ray imaging system is a lightweight and compact device that offers maximum mobility and positioning flexibility even in tight spaces, with consistently high image quality. The MAXreach X-ray arm integrates smooth maneuverability and flexible positioning that assist patient access and optimized radiology workflows, even when motor-drive batteries are empty. An easy-to-clean design of the closed surfaces, reduced gap dimensions, fully integrated cables, and a unique antimicrobial coating provide a fully hygienic solution that simplifies system cleaning.

Seamless integration into the hospital IT infrastructure network, backed up by a comprehensive security package, provides access to relevant data whenever needed and averts digital threats. The Windows 10 based system also allows installation of institution-specific third-party software, such as a radiology information system (RIS) client, picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) viewer, hospital intranet, and an electronic medical record (EMR) client, in order to efficiently manage data directly on the Mobilett Elara Max.

And as Mobilett Elara Max is part of the Siemens Healthineers Max product family, it benefits from a standardized technology platform that allows customers to achieve considerable savings through the common use of detectors from different platform systems, be it standard radiography or fluoroscopy. The identical user interfaces and workflows shorten training periods, reduce errors, and increase efficiency.

“When developing the Mobilett Elara Max, the safety of patients was of primary importance to us, on two levels. The antimicrobial surface of the system and the easy-to-clean design support users in reducing the risk of infections for their patients,” said Carsten Bertram, head of X-ray products at Siemens Healthineers. “Protecting patient data is also becoming more and more important. That’s why we have equipped the Mobilett Elara Max with state-of-the-art, comprehensive IT security technology.”

One in ten patients worldwide is affected by hospital acquired infections (HAIs); more patients die from hospital germs than from AIDS, car accidents, and breast cancer combined. As pathogenic germs may survive on surfaces for weeks or even months, antimicrobial surfaces, easy to clean surfaces, and strict, comprehensive cleaning protocols are of paramount importance to minimize the risk of such infections.
