An upgraded version of a 3 Megapixel (MP) diagnostic display system features a high-bright liquid crystal display (LCD) panel. This advancement opens new possibilities for radiologists to read their multimodality studies with more accuracy.

Diagnostic color modalities, such as three-dimensional (3D) picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), 3D echo, ultrasound, computer-aided detection (CAD), nuclear medicine, and positron emission tomography (PET), are quickly being adopted in daily radiology practice. This evolution inspired Barco (Kortrijk, Begium) to develop a full range of high-performance color PACS display systems. With the launch of the new generation Nio Color 3MP display station, Barco complements this system with a 3 Megapixel display that is very cost-effective.

"The Nio Color 3MP display system targets radiology departments looking for a dependable, industry-standard visualization system that offers them the full benefits of color imaging," explained Geert Carrein, director of product management at Barco. "Thanks to its high-bright luminance of 400 cd/m² [calibrated] throughout its entire life time and its excellent color accuracy, Nio Color 3MP is an ideal visualization solution for multi-modality workstations handling 3D PACS, 3D echo, ultrasound, orthopedic imaging, CAD, image fusion, nuclear medicine, and PET."

The Nio Color 3MP display has a new, built-in system for uniformity correction. Due to this feature, images are presented with more uniform luminance, which enhances diagnostic precision and facilitates compliance with regional quality assurance (QA) standards.

Furthermore, the new Nio Color 3MP system provides exceptional image quality and backlight stabilization. The monitor's LCD technology is protected against damage by means of a protective front cover. This nonreflective cover improves the image contrast, keeps reflections low, and allows for easy and safe cleaning.

Similar to all other Barco diagnostic displays, Nio Color 3MP comes standard with a five-year warranty. Moreover, it is supplied with Barco's user-friendly MediCal QAWeb tool for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) calibration, QA, and asset management. The free 'Essential' level allows the user to easily change QA policies (e.g., white luminance) through a remote calibration. When opting for the 'Premium' level, remote capabilities further include full remote QA, extended notifications, and reports.
