Posted on 05 Jul 2015
Konica Minolta Healthcare (Tokyo, Japan) has acquired a Brazilian digital X-Ray equipment manufacturer in Brazil to strengthen its presence in that country.

The acquisition enables Konica Minolta to market its own Digital Radiography (DR), and Computed Radiography (CR) product lines in Brazil, which has a population of over 200 million, and requires significant investments to improve the efficiency, and technical capabilities of its healthcare system, including the replacement of outdated X-ray equipment.

The acquisition of Brazil’s Sawae Technologica (Minas Gerais, Brazil) by Konica Minolta Healthcare was carried out by Konica’s local sales company, Konica Minolta Healthcare do Brazil (Sao Paulo, Brazil). The acquisition will allow Konica Minolta to use Sawae Technology’s Brazil-wide sales network, market recognition, and local manufacturing capability to market new, modern, X-ray solutions.

Konica Minolta strategy is focused around primary imaging solutions, to speed up the radiology workflow and provide timelier, accurate diagnostic information to help clinicians rule out, or diagnose disease, reducing healthcare costs.

Sawae was founded in 1993, and manufactures, and sells X-Ray systems. Sawae is a widely recognized brand in the Brazilian market. The company has 29 employees, and annual sales of approximately 13 million Brazil Real (FY2014).

Konica Minolta Healthcare builds the AeroDR family of lightweight and dose-efficient flat-panel detector digital-radiography solutions. The AeroDR uses a wireless cassette-type digital X-ray system for wireless transmission of diagnostic imaging data.
