Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium), a leading provider of diagnostic imaging and healthcare information technology (IT) systems, reported that the interface between its leading hospital and clinical information system (HIS/CIS) Orbis and SAP's (Levallois-Perret, France) Controlling (CO), SAP Material Management (MM), and SAP Financial (FI) modules has been certified.

The certification was carried out by an authorized team of experts from SAP after having conducted an in-depth audit on the individual functionalities. The official recognition by SAP is an important step in the company's ongoing drive to standardize its installed base and to support its customers with the interoperability of their healthcare IT systems.

The certification, based on the SAP versions SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 and my SAP ERP 2005 (ECC 6.0) and Orbis Release 8.4, accredits the following interfaces: Orbis-SAP CO (Controlling): a module that provides supporting information to management for the purpose of planning, reporting, as well as monitoring the operations of their business; Orbis-SAP MM (Material Management): a module designed to cover the functionality required to purchase goods and services, manage inventory, and inspect incoming materials; and ORBIS-SAP FI (Financial): a module designed to meet all the accounting and financial needs of an organization.

These standardized interfaces are used to transfer data from Orbis to SAP and vice versa. This enables the user to exchange master data and dynamic data between both software systems on a defined basis. Approximately 80 customers in Europe are currently using SAP procedures in conjunction with Orbis.

"This enhanced way of communication provides the users of both Orbis and SAP the possibility to use the individual mature functional profiles based on standardized communication,” stated Volker Wetekam, vice president of Agfa HealthCare's IT Division. "The certification is an important step in our drive to standardize our portfolio and strengthen our integration capabilities, meeting the ever increasing demand by hospitals and healthcare facilities to provide systems which work as an integral part of their installed base.”

Agfa HealthCare, a member of the Agfa-Gevaert Group, is a provider of IT-enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic image management solutions, and systems for capturing and processing images in hospitals and healthcare facilities.
