An advanced web-based image management platform, targeted at pathology researchers using whole-slide pathology images, has been launched.

The browser-based platform is intended for managing pathology and radiology images, and enables research teams to create, analyze, and share clinical cases. The platform includes an archive, customized metadata fields, an image viewer, and a user manager.

The Pathcore Web platform was developed by Pathcore (Toronto, ON, Canada), a medical IT company that makes systems for viewing, sharing, and analyzing clinical data, and pathology images. Pathcore products also include the free Sedeen image viewer, and the Pathcore SDK algorithm development platform for creating and validating image-analysis algorithms.

The Pathcore software does not need to be install, and enables users to categorize content in the archive according to projects, or using another configuration. The software includes annotation tools for marking-up slides. The software also includes image-sharing capabilities, user roles and permissions, email links, anonymization of data, and custom metadata to help users find and export cases for statistical analysis.

Pathcore Web supports the radiology Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) and other major imaging formats. Data can be stored locally or in the Internet cloud. Pathcore Web offers a U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant hosting environment, offers data encryption, and user authentication for data security.

Pathcore CEO, Dan Hosseinzadeh, said, "Pathcore’s aim is to improve patient care by allowing pathologists to fully embrace digital pathology. The Pathcore Web platform will facilitate a comprehensive approach to analysis and reporting, allowing teams to quickly and seamlessly collaborate, ultimately leading to faster results and publications."
