Eczacıbaşı-Monrol (Gebze, Turkey) has acquired Capintec (Ramsey, NJ, USA), a worldwide developer of radiation measurement and protection equipment for nuclear medicine.

Eczacıbaşı-Monrol Nuclear Products has taken a major move towards its goal of global growth by reaching an agreement to acquire Capintec, a developer of radiation measurement and protection products for nuclear medicine.

Capintec has provided sophisticated instrumentation to customers worldwide for 45 years. Its innovative solutions have contributed significantly not only to nuclear medicine but also diagnostic radiology, oncology, endocrinology, and radiation therapy. Capintec’s headquarters are located in Ramsey, and its production plant in Pittsburgh (PA, USA).

Dr. Erdal Karamercan, chairman of the board of Eczacıbaşı-Monrol and president and CEO of the Eczacıbaşı Group, noted that Eczacıbaşı-Monrol took its first step towards strengthening its innovative capacity and growth potential in August 2011, when it acquired Mol-Image. “This acquisition of Capintec, the world’s best-known brand in its field,” he said, “builds on the momentum started with Mol-Image, which develops and manufactures new equipment for nuclear medicine, chemicals, radiopharmaceuticals, and radiation protection products, and represents a major advance in the achievement of our strategic global targets.”

Explaining that the advanced technology products currently manufactured by Mol-Image to US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards as well as related technical infrastructure and know-how would be transferred from Mol-Image to Capintec, Dr. Karamercan added, “Drawing on the synergy created by this acquisition, we will market innovative instruments and equipment developed by Capintec and Mol-Image through Eczacıbaşı-Monrol’s extensive sales and distribution channels to reach customers in Turkey, Europe and many other markets around the world.”

To demonstrate the great synergy created by the acquisition, Şükrü Bozluolçay, vice chairman of Eczacıbaşı-Monrol and chairman of the Bozlu Group, noted that Capintec would enable Eczacıbaşı-Monrol to launch its products on the American continent as well expand its product range in Europe, where it is projected there will be three production facilities and sales of EU GMP certified products in five countries by 2013.

Eczacıbaşı-Monrol Nuclear Products manufactures radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and treatment at world-class production centers using sophisticated and environmentally sensitive technology. Through continual investments in new technologies and production techniques, Eczacıbaşı-Monrol makes sure that its products and services are of the highest quality, meet the strictest safety standards, and comply with the latest national and international guidelines.

Eczacıbaşı-Monrol has seven production facilities in Turkey, Gebze (headquarters), Ankara, Adana, Izmir, Istanbul, Antalya, and Malatya, and four plants abroad: Romania, Egypt, Kuwait, and Dubai. With the opening of new plants in Jordan, Bulgaria, and Poland in 2013, it will have 14 plants in all.
