The medical imaging information technology (IT) company Sectra (Linköping, Sweden) has signed a partnership agreement with CT Frank Technology (Kamunting, Perak, Malaysia) in Malaysia. Under the agreement, CT Frank Technology will become a distributor of Sectra’s visualization table in the Southeast Asian market.

“Our agreement with CT Frank Technology is the starting point in establishing distribution channels for our Sectra Visualization Table in Asia,” said Lars Wettergren, vice president, global partner sales at Sectra’s medical operations.

Southeast Asia is a significant market, where considerable investments are being made in modernizing the healthcare sector. With subsidiaries in Malaysia, Thailand, China, and Vietnam, CT Frank Technology has delivered visualization solutions for various clients, including healthcare facilities and schools, since 2004. CT Frank Technology will install the first visualization table at University Malaya Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, where it will be used in medical education and research.

“We consider that the Sectra Visualization Table offers great potential and have already noted interest from medical institutions and health ministries,” said Louis Tan, business development manager at CT Frank Technology. “The main benefit of the table is that it enhances the quality of medical education, although we also see many other valuable areas of use.”

With Sectra Visualization Table, the users can interact collaboratively with the real-size 3D images generated by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners. For instance, they can visualize different kinds of tissues and cut through sections with a virtual knife. The large monitor and touch interface support group discussion between medical teams. The visualization table makes an important contribution to medical education, especially in training of interns and residents.

The visualization table is powered by a customized Sectra picture archiving and communication system (PACS) workstation. Sectra’s patented visualization techniques also allow immediate display of datasets of extreme size, such as high-resolution full-body scans.

Sectra develops and markets IT systems and services for radiology, women’s health, orthopedics, and rheumatology. More than 1,400 clinics, hospitals, and imaging centers worldwide use the systems routinely, together performing over 70 million radiology examinations annually. In Scandinavia, Sectra is a market leader with more than 50% of all film-free installations. Sectra’s systems have been installed in Scandinavia, North America, and most major countries in Europe and the Far East.

Sectra was founded in 1978 and has its roots in Linköping University in Sweden. The company’s business operation includes innovative products and services within the niche segments of medical systems and secure communication systems. Sectra has offices in 12 countries and operates through partners worldwide. Sales in the 2011/2012 fiscal year totaled SEK 823 million.
