An 18-year strategic collaboration agreement, worth CAD 300 million, between a major medical imaging vendor and the Southwest York Region of Ontario in Canada, has been announced.

The partnership is for managed equipment services to help advance medical technology in the Southwest York region, and to expand the accessibility and quality of healthcare.

The agreement is between Royal Philips (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) and Mackenzie Health (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada). The agreement is intended to advance procurement of medical technology and maintenance programs for the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, and for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital that should be completed in 2019.

The partnership will provide Mackenzie Health with access to state-of-the art medical equipment and services from Philips and other vendors under a multi-year term and a single-payment structure. The agreement includes the medical equipment procurement, installation, systems integration, and maintenance, and periodic updates when required. The partnership, the largest of its kind in Canada, also includes services such as room design, diagnostic technologies, and cloud-based predictive analytics, and will serve more than 500,000 patients in region.

The agreement is intended to advance Mackenzie Health’s “smart hospital” vision, and support Mackenzie Health’s transformation into a regional best-in-class healthcare provide. The existing Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital has 350 beds. The new hospital in Vaughan will also have 350 beds and will be the first new hospital in Southwest York Region in more than half a century. The Vaughan hospital will have modern surgical services and operating rooms, a state-of-the-art emergency department, acute in-patient and intensive care beds, and specialized ambulatory equipment.

Altaf Stationwala, president and CEO, Mackenzie Health, said, “To bring our ‘smart hospital’ vision to life, we are partnering with industry leaders like Philips who are at the forefront of innovation. The new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital has the potential to transform the lives of residents in our community, who are in need of quality care throughout their healthcare journey. We chose Philips not only for their products, but also for their expertise and solutions. Mackenzie Health is committed to working with our healthcare partners to deliver a state-of-the-art hospital as part of our vision to create a world-class health experience for the people of Southwest York Region and beyond.”
