A digital radiography X-ray suite is being installed that will be used for wide range of exams including chest, abdomen, spine, and extremity work. The Canadian hospital’s healthcare staff foresees decreased exam times, increased image quality, and enhanced workflow.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) has installed of a DX-D 600 automatic digital X-ray suite at St. Mary’s Hospital Site of Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA), a 20-bed acute and complex continuing care hospital with emergency department in St. Mary’s (Ontario, Canada). The ceiling-suspended, fully motorized, dual-detector direct radiography (DR) system from Agfa HealthCare will be used for a wide range of exams including chest, abdomen, spine, and extremity work.

“We are all very excited about this new technology, which will improve workflow, decrease exam times, and increase image quality. Instant image availability also reduces patient wait times,” said Diane Smith, HPHA manager of medical imaging.

To help in the transition while St. Mary’s Hospital Site completes the installation of its new DR X-ray suite, Agfa HealthCare has provided the facility with a mobile DX-D 100 DR system with excellent MUSICA image quality to provide imaging services outside the X-ray room. “It will be well worth the wait for completion of this new technology strengthening St. Mary’s site’s digital imaging capability,” continued Ms. Smith.

Once installation is complete, St. Mary’s will benefit from the DX-D 600’s excellent image quality provided by MUSICA (multi-scale image contrast amplification) next-generation image-processing software and the improved workflow thanks to the fully integrated NX workstation. The immediate image availability means that images are available for the clinician to review before a final report is published, speeding up workflow and reducing patient wait times. Moreover, the DX-D 600 features dose-monitoring tools to monitor exposure trends, giving the facility the ability to potentially lower dose, while producing incredibly sharp images.
