A new high frequency three-in-one dental imaging system provides clinics with excellent performance and streamlined workflow for a range of clinical application areas. The technology combines excellent panoramic and cephalometric imaging with advanced cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging modality.

The latest complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor technology enables dedicated panoramic and cephalometric imaging with excellent image quality, whereas the large CMOS sensor combined with SARA (Soredex advance reconstruction algorithm) assures accurate three-dimensional (3D) imaging from one single tooth up to the entire craniomaxillofacial region.

The Cranex 3Dx, developed by Soredex (Tuusula, Finland), offers three fields-of-view (FOV 5 x 5 cm, 6 x 8 cm, and 8 x 8 cm) as standard selection, and in addition, two optional larger FOVs (8 x 15 and 13 x 15) for diagnostic tasks in the complete maxillofacial region. The large selection of FOVs provides flexibility, while PickPoint freely selectable FOV positioning and EasyScout functionality for positioning accuracy make sure that the desired region of interest is actually in the image. Therefore, there is no need to select too large FOV size or to retake the exposure: the image will be accurate and perfectly positioned at the first shot, both of which work for the benefit of dose minimization.

The system offers for each FOV a selection of resolutions including high, standard, and Soredex MiniDose (MDS). Furthermore, it offers a specific endo-program optimized for high accuracy needed in endodontic diagnostics. Consequently, resolution may be defined according to the diagnostic task in question, thereby optimizing the dose for each patient. Soredex MDS is suitable for radiation-sensitive patients, such as pediatric patients, and for example, for implant planning and control as well as for follow-up imaging. Good image quality is maintained due to SARA. The Minidose effective dose, with 5 x 5 FOV, accounts for only one-fifth of a panoramic image.

Patient dose is also optimized with AES hybrid—combined automatic exposure setting (AES) in panoramic, cephalometric, and 3D. AES suggests exposure values based on patient size and is now available for 3D imaging as well.

The Soredex WiseDose scaler feature visualizes relative dose for each program setting. It guides to use optimal dose settings especially in 3D with Dose Care Control assistance. The ClearTouch control panel guides the operation smoothly, and the Soredex rigid five-point positioning system considerably contributes to stable patient positioning, and as a result, great image quality.

The system has open-software architecture, and all 3D data may be easily integrated with a number of navigation surgery and drill guide systems. Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine/picture archiving and communication system (DICOM/PACS) compatibility promotes easy sharing and storing of image and patient data.

Cranex 3Dx is an agile in-office imaging solution whose performance may be enhanced according to the evolving diagnostic needs: both cephalometric modality and large FOVs may be upgraded after the initial purchase, which thereby extends and diversifies the life cycle of the system. Furthermore, small footprint of Cranex 3Dx makes it compatible even for clinics with limited space.
