Pediatric Radiation Dose Reduction Key Factor in Selection of DR Systems

X-Ray dose reduction potential was a key factor in the decision of the Washington DC (USA) metropolitan area Children’s National Health System to install new Direct Radiography (DR) systems.

The priority of Children’s National Health System was to ensure that pediatric patients would receive the lowest possible dose when undergoing X-ray exams, without compromising image quality.

Children’s National evaluated a number of DR products, but finally selected Agfa HealthCare’s (Mortsel, Belgium) full room DR suite, and mobile DR for their potential to reduce the radiation dose exposure by up to 60%, while providing improved image quality.

The healthcare provider installed six Agfa HealthCare’s DX-D 100 mobile and two DX-D 600 full-room DR suites as part of their migration from Computed Radiography (CR) to DR systems.

The DX-D 600 system can be used to perform full-length spine imaging, for scoliosis evaluations, and uses Agfa HealthCare’s innovative MUSICA multi-scaled image processing software. MUSICA is applied automatically, dispensing with the need for window leveling or re-processing of images.

Ueli Laupper, DR business director, Agfa HealthCare, North America, said, “The integration of our DR systems at Children’s National Health System is a testament to our DR product offerings and mission of enabling excellent delivery of patient care, particularly for the precious pediatric population, through state-of-the-art MUSICA based imaging technology. Children’s National is one of the most prestigious pediatric healthcare systems in the world. We have valued the hospital as a long-term customer of our Computed Radiography technologies, and are honored to be chosen as their partner to migrate to DR workflow and productivity. We have focused on pediatric imaging excellence for many years and are committed to assist the diagnostic team of Children’s National in their quest to serve their patients using the lowest radiation dose reasonably achievable.”
