A human care company has showcased a new version of a treatment planning system at the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) 2016 annual meeting in Washington DC, USA.

The company develops radiation therapy, radiosurgery, brain disorder, and brachytherapy tools and treatment planning systems, and cancer treatment workflow enhancement software. The new treatment planning software is up to four times faster than previous versions, and can be used in the Internet cloud.

The Monaco version 5.11 treatment planning software was developed by Elekta (Stockholm, Sweden) and has already been installed at a number of customer sites. The system uses Monte Carlo dose calculations, and multi-criteria optimization. The system provides templates that help users import and export treatment plans, which facilitates sharing of best practices between hospital departments and within organizations. The system can also be used to create multiple prescription plans in parallel, to reduce planning time. The new software also features improved data sharing capabilities.

Elekta will also highlight a new version of the MOSAIQ software and the MOSAIQ Oncology Analytics package, the Leksell Gamma Knife Icon brain radiosurgery system, the iView Dose software in-vivo dosimetry solution, and the AQUA quality management system.

David Mellenberg PhD, DABR, Elekta, said, “Elekta’s Versa HD linear accelerator and Monaco treatment planning system combine unrivalled dose delivery and intelligent dose planning. The efficiency and precision of Versa HD are enhanced when combined with the Multicriteria Optimization and Gold Standard Monte Carlo calculations in Monaco 5.11. Together, they make dynamic and stereotactic techniques not only possible, but routine practice.”
