Ultrasound Workstation Protects Technicians from Endocavity Probe-Processing Vapors

By MedImaging International staff writers
Posted on 19 Nov 2012
Ultrasound workstations have been designed to protect technicians from disinfectant vapors while processing endocavity probes.

New endocavity ultrasound probe workstations allow effective and efficient disinfection of transvaginal ultrasound probes while protecting the technician from potentially hazardous exposure to high-level disinfectant vapors. Each workstation includes three bottles for disinfectant and rinse water, SoftClips for holding probes, probe pack holder, and integral fan with bonded carbon filter.

The AirClean Systems (Raleigh, NC, USA) VP50 workstation’s fan draws air away from the operator and through the carbon filter, preventing disinfectant vapors from wafting upward towards the technician or into the room. The included bonded carbon filter effectively captures and neutralizes hydrogen peroxide, glutaraldehyde, Cidex ortho-phthalaldehyde (OPA), or peracetic acid vapors for 12 months. This special bonded filter eliminates carbon “dusting” associated with loose granular carbon filtration, keeping your processing area clean.

A welded polypropylene construction of the VP50 safeguards a long service life, as it will not corrode when exposed to water and disinfectants. Seamless construction provides for simple routine cleaning and spill cleanup. Novel SoftClips hold each probe at the strain relief, keeping the probe at the correct position for disinfectant without damaging sensitive electronic components. The system can be placed virtually anywhere, either mounted to the wall or positioned on a counter top. Access to a standard 110 V outlet is the only installation requirement.

The VP50 endocavity ultrasound workstation can help medical facilities meet US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) regulatory requirements for personnel protection from high-level disinfectant vapors.
