A new integration of a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) with third-party software that addresses regulatory, quality, and communications and reporting functionally challenges helps radiologists comply with the Joint Commission's U.S. National patient safety goals.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium), a leading provider of information technology- (IT)-enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic imaging solutions, announced the availability of workflow integration with peerVue's (Burlington, VT, USA) qiVue system. The integrated solution is available in the United States only.

Integration with Agfa's Impax 6 platform enables the radiologist to be more efficient through simple point-and-click reporting of study discrepancies and other quality- and communication-related activities directly from the Impax desktop. These processes are now required for accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and in compliance with The Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals. The functionality features include peer review, technologist quality control, emergency department-discrepancy management, and teaching files.

"This is another example of how Agfa HealthCare integrates specialty third-party applications with the Impax platform to meet radiologists' unique needs,” said David Talton, marketing manager, Reporting Solutions, Agfa HealthCare. "By using qiVue with other Impax integrated desktop information, including 3D [three-dimensional] visualization, reporting, and critical test result management solutions, radiologists have the tools to provide confident diagnoses and timely results.”

"With integration between Impax and peerVue, organizations can enjoy relief from increased regulatory and quality pressures, while improving communications, eliminating paper and other manual workarounds in favor of simple to use, PACS-centric workflows,” said Kyle Lawton, president and CEO, peerVue, LLC.

PeerVue provides software and service solutions to integrate, streamline, and distribute clinical information and images across the healthcare enterprise. PeerVue strives for continuously measurable improvements in healthcare practice by assisting both IT vendors and care delivery organizations in delivering care with measurably increasing levels of quality.

Agfa HealthCare, a member of the Agfa-Gevaert Group, is a leading provider of IT-enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic image management solutions, and state-of-the-art systems for capturing and processing images in hospitals and healthcare facilities.
