New software has been designed to collect interventional radiology procedural information at the point-of-care by delivering comprehensive data capture for both general and vascular procedures. The Interventional Radiology module automatically documents JCAHO (Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) and patient safety performance measures.

This new system, developed by Lumedx Corp. (Oakland, CA, USA), a provider of fully integrated medical imaging and information systems, is the first commercial software to offer sophisticated, integrated tools for this vital service line, and was designed to meet hospitals' clinical-and business-objectives.

As part of the Lumedx range of patient and clinical business management solutions, the Interventional Radiology (IR) module enables easy tracking and monitoring of case details, volumes, and billing. Performance metrics are immediately available for analysis. Images are integrated into the case record. And electronic procedure reports are thorough and timely. By automating information capture, the module makes it easy for IR physicians and staff to communicate and collaborate with other clinical areas, a key component of top-quality care.

"Interventional radiology continues to be underserved by the IT [information technology] marketplace, with no integrated systems to track business and patient management. As hospital budgets tighten, efficient management of the IR suite is imperative to accurately schedule procedures, track inventory, bill for procedures and professional services, review images, report on patient care, and evaluate performance metrics," commented Lumedx lead clinical product manager Quana Bert, R.N., A.R.N.P. "The new Lumedx interventional radiology solution supports hospitals' clinical, financial, and operational viability by delivering efficient, integrated data and image management--with advanced analytic capabilities."

Lumedx's interventional radiology system provides significant benefits to interventional radiology departments, including: streamlined, automated data collection for maximum efficiency and accuracy; complete JCAHO/patient safety information documentation; inventory and billing code capture; image management; comprehensive, timely case reports; and trend-tracking and analysis.

Lumedx is a developer of fully integrated cardiology, thoracic surgery and vascular interventional radiology information systems, and a cardiology picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) solutions provider.
