Barco (Kortrijk, Belgium), a leading provider of medical imaging systems, and Medicsight PLC (London, UK), a leading developer of computer-aided detection (CAD) technologies, have signed a partnership agreement to incorporate Medicsight's ColonCAD image analysis software tools within Barco's Voxar 3D ColonMetrix virtual colonography application.

By integrating Medicsight's CAD function, Barco further expands the functionality of its ColonMetrix software system, thereby enabling faster and more efficient recognition of suspect lesions during virtual colonography.

"We are extremely pleased to partner with Barco for the incorporation of our CAD image analysis software into the Voxar 3D ColonMetrix software,” said David Summer, CEO of Medicsight PLC. "Our combined technological and clinical expertise results in a powerful package that brings virtual colonoscopy to its true potential.”

"The cooperation with Medicsight fits perfectly in our philosophy of presenting radiologists with best-of-breed advanced visualization tools that bring together speed, efficiency and ease of use,” remarked senior vice president of Barco's Medical Imaging Division, Piet Candeel. "We are confident that the integrated solution will bring an effective answer to the ever increasing reliance on virtual colonoscopy with CAD.”

Medicsight's ColonCAD is an image analysis software tool designed for use with CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy) scans. It has been specifically created to support the detection and segmentation of abnormalities within the colon that may potentially be adenomatous polyps. ColonCAD can be integrated within advanced 3D visualization and PACS platforms of industry leading imaging equipment partners.

Barco's Voxar 3D ColonMetrix is a complete virtual colonoscopy workflow and reporting system that allows radiologists to interpret a CT colonography study and generate a report typically within 10 minutes. As such, it makes virtual colonoscopy an economically and clinically feasible alternative. The system combines sophisticated viewing capabilities, workflow efficiency, and integrated reporting, to assist radiologists in locating polyps, tumors, and pre-malignant growths in the bowel. Furthermore, radiologists can benefit from real-time manipulation of colon image data with accelerated graphics processing unit (GPU) 3D fly-through and Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) reporting to quickly provide patient information to referring physicians throughout the enterprise.

The CAD function integrated with Voxar 3D ColonMetrix R 3D ColonMetrix is not currently available for promotion or sale in the United States.

Medicsight is a leading developer of CAD technologies and image analysis software.

Barco, a global technology company, designs, and develops visualization products for a variety of selected professional markets.
