New Imaging IT Technologies Show Improvements Across the Board

New imaging information technology (IT) has been developed to help radiologists improve patient care, streamline workflow, and lower costs.

At the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2014, to be held March 6-10, in Vienna (Austria), Carestream (Rochester, NY, USA) will present a range of IT systems and their current works-in-progress technology, including a new generation of Vue picture archiving and communication system (PACS) as a work-in-progress, which is designed to incorporate images with reports and enable cost-effective teleradiology capabilities; work-in-progress enhancements to the digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) module on its Vue Mammo workstation, will include the display of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM)-compliant two-dimensional (2D) synthetic views, which are calculated from the 3D dataset; and the latest version of image acquisition software for its computed radiology (CR) and digital radiology (DR) systems with a bone suppression feature, which is designed to create a companion image to suppress the appearance of posterior ribs and clavicles while optimizing the visualization of soft tissue in the chest.

Also to be presented at the ECR meeting is a new IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) dose reporting capability developed to gather and distribute dose data from all Carestream DR and CR systems to a healthcare provider’s PACS. Moreover, an expansion of the company’s cloud-based services range will be presented at this year’s ECR with the addition of the Vue Motion physician portal and MyVue Patient Portal as cloud services.

A novel reporting feature to the Vue radiology information system (RIS) and PACS platform has been developed in which radiologists will be able to insert bookmarks with key images that may contain measurement data or vessel analysis into their reports to help enhance treatment decisions. Lastly, a New Managed Print Services program helps eliminate the high costs in film printing systems and provides a payment model based on per-print usage, with management through a simple and comprehensive Web portal.
