A large provider of private cancer care in Australia has agreed to purchase ten medical linear accelerators for cancer centers across the country.

The linear accelerators are intended for use in radiotherapy and radiosurgery procedures. The deal also includes treatment planning software and an oncology information management system.

Varian Medical Systems (Palo Alto, CA, USA) announced the deal under which it will install ten TrueBeam systems in cancer centers operated by the Icon Group (South Brisbane, QLD, Australia). The systems are capable of dynamic synchronization of patient imaging during a procedure, by adjusting patient positioning, and providing motion management. The deal also includes Varian’s Eclipse treatment planning system software and the ARIA oncology information management system.

Varian Medical Systems provides radiotherapy, radiosurgery, brachytherapy, and proton therapy solutions, including informatics software for oncology institutions. The company also supplies X-Ray imaging components, image processing software, and workstations.

Mark Middleton, CEO, Icon Group, said, "This agreement is reflective of the strong relationship between our two companies and the high quality cancer treatment equipment and service Varian delivers. These ten new TrueBeam systems mean we can provide advanced cancer treatment to more patients across Australia, in addition to the five systems ordered last year and the nine currently in place. Varian technology and services make it possible to deliver quality care rapidly and efficiently so that we can serve more patients."
