A mobile ultrasound system's monitor is positioned vertically on the scanning unit, making it possible to view two large biplane images simultaneously without compromising ultrasound image size.

BK Medical (Herlev, Denmark), a wholly owned subsidiary of Analogic Corp., presented the Flex Focus ultrasound scanner at the American Urological Association (AUA) annual meeting, April 25-30, 2009, in Chicago, IL, USA. Flex Focus is the latest in the Focus-family series of ultrasound scanners.

The new Flex Focus scanner is a modern, sleek ultrasound system, whose design complements its wide-ranging functionality. The system features a 19-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) high-definition monitor that houses the actual scanning unit, making the Flex Focus a mobile solution for advanced ultrasound needs. The system can be easily docked in several different configurations and its 14-inch (35-cm) width allow it to fit into virtually all clinical settings, even smaller, private practice offices.

The Flex Focus keyboard is sealed and smooth, with no rough edges or grooves. This makes cleaning and disinfection easy and also reduces the risk of cross-contamination. The mobile ultrasound system is compatible with BK's specialized transducers.

Michael Brock, president and CEO of BK Medical, said, "Many customers today are interested in laptop scanners, and assume they have to make system compromises if they decide to purchase a mobile system. The Flex Focus addresses this market need. With the Flex Focus, customers do not need to compromise--they get a real, full-size scanner with superior image quality in a small, mobile system.”

B-K Medical ApS, specializes in the development and production of diagnostic ultrasound equipment. The company develops ultrasound scanners specially designed for surgery and for the investigation of urological disorders. The product line also includes scanners for other applications, such as gynecological examinations, fetal scanning, and radiology.
