A new ultrasound system features latest innovations in diagnostic imaging that enable more effective diagnosis.

Samsung Medison (Seoul, South Korea), a global medical devices company, presented a new ultrasound system, the UGEO WS80A ultrasound system, developed for ob/gyn applications, at the 23rd International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) World Congress, held in Sydney (NSW, Australia), during October 6-9, 2013.

The UGEO WS80A ultrasound system combines Samsung’s most recent advances in display technology to provide fast and accurate diagnoses in women’s health. Key features include: (1) 21.5-inch wide light-emitting diode (LED) screen with 10.1-inch touch panel. (2) FRV + Inversion Mode enables faster realization of FRV (feto realistic view), which displays life-like detail of anatomic structures. (3) 5D NT (nuchal translucency) enables realistic visualization of NT images that help detect Down syndrome. (3) five-dimensional (5D) Cine, which provides images that can be viewed on 3D TV for healthcare practitioners to acquire new clinical value through more accurate diagnoses of lesions and blood vessels. Aside from the clinical benefit, this feature also gives soon-to-be-parents the opportunity to meet their yet-to-be-born infant in 3D. 5D NT gauges the thickness at the back of an unborn infant’s neck. Measuring this thickness helps evaluate the risk of Down syndrome typically between 11 and 13 weeks of pregnancy. (4) The system also features the latest breast elastography technology, which makes it easier for users to differentiate benign from malignant masses through acquiring the strain ratio between the target and reference area faster than the earlier models.

The versatile system can be deployed across a number of fields including ob/gyn, radiology, and cardiology. Both products will be available in Korea, Australia, as well as other countries in Europe and Southeast Asia beginning this month, with a launch in the United States and Japan to follow in the beginning of 2014.

“As the first premium device, the UGEO WS80A represents the latest ultrasound innovation and leading IT [information technology] technologies of Samsung,” said Soo-in Cho, CEO of Samsung Medison. “Samsung will continue to put its best efforts towards developing medical devices that deliver true-to-life images and features that provide faster diagnosis.”

Samsung Medison is a global medical devices company. The company markets sophisticated medical devices including diagnostic ultrasound, digital X-ray and blood analyzers, in 110 countries worldwide.
